I have just received a shipment of gift items from Russia. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos, but I am just learning how to use my new digital camera. Believe me, everything is much nicer than the photos show. Next time, I will use better lighting and a higher resolution. You will notice that there is no fancy "Shopping Cart Technology" here. This is strictly a small time operation. These are available in strictly limited quantities. In other words, I've only got ONE OF EACH! If you want an item, you better call or email me immediately to reserve it. Send me the money later. I'll take checks and money orders. I can also take Visa, Discover, or Mastercard. DO NOT email me your credit card information! Either send it to me in a letter by mail or telephone me. Within Maine, 5% Maine sales tax applies. Don't forget to add the shipping charges, located at the bottom of the page. Or if you live in or near Saco, Maine, you can pick them up or I'll deliver. More expensive items are at the top of the list. Less expensive items are at the bottom. Keep scrolling down!
The famous Russian nesting wooden dolls are called "Matryoshkas". I have several of them here.
VERY LARGE MATRYOSHKAS. I have 3 of these, all about 4-1/2" in diameter and a little over 9" tall. Each one has 10 pieces (smaller dolls) inside. All of the interior dolls are similar to the one on the outside. All depict women. One set is dark blue with intricately painted white flowers, one set is dark blue with intricately painted pink flowers (and some gold glitter), and one set is red with intricately painted multi-colored flowers. $85.00 each.
LARGE MATRYOSHKA. 3-3/4" in diameter by just over 8" tall. Done in a much simpler, more traditional style, but also has brightly colored flowers painted on. This simple but colorful doll shows a young lady in a more traditional peasant costume. 9 pieces. Each inner doll is like the one on the outside. $55.00.
MEDIUM "FAMILY" MATRYOSHKA. This colorful doll is about 3" in diameter by 6" tall and has 5 pieces. Good detail and shading. The outside doll is the father, holding a large turnip. Inside is his wife, holding a bowl of food. Next, is their daughter. Inside the daughter is their dog. And inside their dog is, well, I don't know! It's a small animal, gray, with a long nose, but I don't think it's a cat. Maybe a badger, or skunk or something. Whatever it is, it looks like it's holding a carrot! $40.00.
MEDIUM "MOTHER" MATRYOSHKA. This colorful doll is about 3" in diameter by 6" tall and has 5 pieces. Good detail and shading. The outside doll is a young mother holding a pitcher of cream, and has two cats around her. The next doll is her son, also with another cat. Inside the son is her daughter, holding a basket with another cat inside. Inside the daughter is a smaller daugher, also holding a cat! The smallest figure looks like a young boy with long hair, holding a bowl of "kasha" (hot cereal) or possibly, a bowl of milk to help feed all the cats! $40.00
SMALL "FAMILY" MATRYOSHKA. This colorful doll is about 3" in diameter by 5-3/4" tall and has 5 pieces. Very good detail and shading. The outside doll is the grandmother, holding a large samovar (family pot for heating hot water for tea). Inside is the grandfather, eating "kasha" (hot cereal). Inside the grandfather is a young lady, holding some kind of bread or cake. Inside the young lady is a girl, holding a teapot (to go with the samovar). Inside the girl is a little boy eating some kind of donut or bagel. $40.00
SMALL GIRL/CAT MATRYOSHKA. This colorful doll is about 2-1/2" diameter by 5-1/2" tall and has 5 pieces. Very good detail, but done in a little bit different artistic style that doesn't have as much shading as the previous dolls. Each inner doll is like the one on the outside. This doll features a young lady wearing a brightly flowered costume, while holding a yellow cat. $35.00
MEDIUM "FAMILY" MATROYSHKA. This brightly colored doll is in a different style from the others, in that it was painted with a "flat finish" paint instead of the high-gloss enamels used on the others. It's a matter of preference. Of course, if you decide you don't like the "matte finish", you can always take apart the doll, line up the pieces, and spray on a couple of coats of clear enamel, varnish, or lacquer. This doll has 6 pieces and features the mother on the outside, with a cow. Inside is her husband holding grass and flowers. Inside is their daughter, holding a vase. Inside her is their son, who can't keep his shirt tucked in. Inside him is another little daughter. $37.00

CHICKEN PADDLE TOYS. Each wooden paddle has 5 little chickens on it. The paddle is about 5" in diameter, and each chicken is about 2-1/2" long. Each chicken is strung to a wooden weight under the paddle. Move the paddle in a horizontal circular motion, and the chickens seem to come to life and start pecking their food in sequence! Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face! I have two of these: one red with blue flowers, one bright green with pink/purple flowers. $7.50 each.
CARVED BEAR TOYS. I've got 5 of these, all different. These are hand-carved wood bears, unpainted, mounted on sticks or paddles. By sliding the sticks or moving the paddles slightly, the bears appear to do a variety of different things. BEAR TOY #1: Bear rings two bells mounted on a "tree". Of course, because the bells are carved from wood, they don't actually ring, but you get the idea. BEAR TOY #2: Bear moves his hands up and down a little bit, while apparently raising the Russian flag. BEAR TOY #3: A Man is training a bear to repair a boot. The man has a whip and the bear is swinging a hammer at the inverted boot. BEAR TOY #4: A bear is playing a balalaika (triangular Russian guitar), while a rabbit taps his foot. BEAR TOY #5: One bear spanking another bear with a broom. This one is open to interpretation: possibly one bear chasing another away from a pot of honey. Maybe a wife beating her husband. Mother bear spanking her child. Or maybe it depicts two bears in a Russian "banya" (sauna), where participants swat each other with birch branches. Regardless, each of these bear toys is $7.50.
BROOCHES. I've got 9 very beautiful women's brooches. All have a pin back. All are black with brightly painted designs on them, and gold painted borders around the edges. Four are oval shaped (about 1-1/2" x 2-1/2") with brightly painted floral designs ($8.50 each). Three are circle shaped (2" diameter) with brightly painted floral designs ($8.50 each). Two are circle shaped (2" diameter) with people painted on them. One has a young man and woman harvesting in a grain field, and the other has a young man and woman riding a horse ($12.50 each).
WOODEN EASTER EGGS. Brightly colored, all different, wooden Easter eggs. Russian versions of "Pysanky", or intricately painted Ukrainian Easter eggs. I've got 10 of these, all different colors. The best I can do is give you the base color of each egg--the designs painted on them are all different colors. But basically, I have one bright green egg, one dark green egg, one yellow egg, two bright orange eggs, one pink egg, one bluish-green egg, two dark red eggs, and one dark brown egg. $5.00 each.
